Trinity: A presentation for All Age Worship

We believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Creator, the Redeemer, the Sustainer.

(Three white felt circles were laid out in a row)

We do not understand God, but we can know him.

Sometimes it helps to use words...

(A text was placed on each circle)

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Father)

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." (Son)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Holy Spirit)

Sometimes it helps to use images...

(A picture was placed on each circle)

Sometimes it helps to use stories...

In the beginning God said, "Let there be light..."

The blind and lame came to Jesus at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant.

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Sometimes it helps to use symbols...

(A symbol was placed on each circle)

God the Father: a hand holding the figure of a baby

God the Son: a cross

God the Holy Spirit: a dove

Three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

But this isn't right. There are not three gods but one.

The God we know but cannot understand is three persons but one God.

Perhaps it looks like this...

(The circles were re-arranged so that they were overlapping)

or even like this...

(The symbols, pictures and texts were re-arranged. For example the picture of Jesus was placed on the same circle as the text for the Holy Spirit)

But this we know: The God we know but cannot understand is a God of life and love, joy and hope, truth and justice, forgiveness and healing. He has no beginning and no end...

(Golden stars were sprinkled over the display and a gold ribbon tied to make a circle was laid around)
