Creating a worship focus for Easter

Dressing the Cross

The service began with the empty wooden cross. We then invited the congregation to use daffodils to decorate the cross. This time we wound wire around the cross to hold the flowers in place; in the past we have used chicken wire. We have also used this at an end of term service for our local primary school.

Good Friday to Easter

For Good Friday we created a tomb by draping the pulpit and steps with black sheets.

We laid the grave clothes in the space under the steps and included some material scented with rosemary. (Other scents could have been used, myrrh was a bit expensive.)

To give the impression of a garden we had placed green plants around the tomb. On Easter day we added flowering plants.

One parent asked why the tomb was still draped in black; another year we might experiment with draping gold cloths instead.
